My boy is 2. Ok, he is almost 3. He will be 3 at the end of April, and he STILL. HAS. A. BOTTLE.
I need help with this. I don't know how to get him off of it. He knows only 'babies' get baba's and he knows that he is a 'big boy' and all day long he will tell me he doesn't need a bottle and he is a big boy and so on and so forth.
Then comes bed time. HE FLIPS OUT. Like, seriously, flips out like I've never seen before. I already have TONS of sleeping problems with this boy... as in, he has nite terrors some nights, and he wakes up anywhere from 2 to 5 or 6 times a night, EVERY NIGHT. I think he has slept through the night maybe 10 times since his birth and THAT. IS. IT.
I need a break. I need to get this bottle away from my ALMOST 3 year old. I need some sleep. I could get him to go to sleep without the bottle eventually, and that wouldn't be so hard on me, it's the 12am, 3am, and 5am wake up that I could't just shove a bottle with some water in it in his hand and he shuts up and goes back to sleep that are going to kill me.
Any suggestions?? I really am taking any and all advice! Here he is today all snuggled up with his baba. AAAWWWW!

I know this sounds too easy, but my friend did this with both of her boys with the bottle and the pacifier. She told them that there was another little baby that needed them really badly and they would go shopping to replace it with a toy, stuffed animal, blankie, something. I think it involved a really long, face to face talk, but it worked. I'm crossing my fingers for you. I'm sure it's hard! You can do it.
ReplyDeleteNicolle's idea is good. We got Adam off of his regular bottle at a year and switched to those nuby sippy cups(still look like bottles, kind-of) but then we got him a regular straw cup at 18 months. He was kind of the same way at 1st but now he just drinks from a regular cup with no straws...I know I was watching a nanny 911 that had the issue and they did the same thing that Nicolle said...but every kid is different..I really wish you the best of luck...you never know how long it will take but you have to stick to your guns when you make the change...that is the biggest thing...best of luck!
ReplyDeleteHave you had any luck?
ReplyDeleteNo such luck yet. We have had some other things going on, and it hasn't been a top priority yet. He is down to just one bottle, and no more. He was trying for them everytiem he wakes up in the night, now I tell him no and tell him to go back to sleep. That approach seems to be working! Thanks for checking in!
